Power ring and mesh sizing

Floorplanning medium interactive · in-browser

Size the power delivery network for a block with four hard macros (cpu, sram, dsp, io) already placed. Use the three sliders to set the power ring and the mesh of stripes, and watch the IR-drop map: current enters at the ring and droops toward the centre.

The starting mesh is far too weak - the centre is deep in the red.

  • Static IR drop under budget - the worst droop must stay under the budget (in millivolts). Widen the ring to lift the whole die, widen the stripes to raise the centre, and tighten the pitch to cut the droop between stripes.
  • Signal routing closes - every power stripe is a track the signals cannot use, and the macros block routing over their own footprint. Once IR drop is met, run Place & Route: build the mesh too heavy and the signal routing runs out of tracks and fails. A denser mesh helps IR but starves routing.

The two budgets pull against each other, so lean on a wide ring and a tight pitch rather than fat stripes to hit the IR budget without walling off the tracks. Run Place & Route, then Submit design for a score.
