Decap insertion for dynamic droop

Floorplanning medium interactive · in-browser

Place the decoupling capacitors (decaps) that hold the rail voltage during peak switching. This is a dynamic problem, not a static one: a few high-activity regions toggle hard and pull a fast current transient (di/dt), drawn as the busy red switching nets. The dynamic droop spikes right at those hotspots, not evenly across the die.

Each decap has a coverage ring: it can only supply the fast charge to switching within its reach. The decaps start piled in a corner, far from the action, so every hotspot is screaming red.

  • Peak dynamic droop under budget - drop a decap on each switching hotspot so its coverage ring reaches it. A covered hotspot calms down and turns green; one left outside every ring stays red and over budget. A decap far from any switching does nothing.

Drag each decap onto a hotspot, then Submit design for a score.
