Driver cloning and load split

ECO medium interactive · in-browser

Driver cloning and load split. A single driver feeds a large number of sinks. Its delay grows with the total capacitive load it drives, so a high-fanout net is slow: one gate is trying to charge every sink at once.

Cloning the driver makes identical copies of it, all fed by the same upstream signal, and splits the sinks among the copies. Each copy then drives only its share of the load, so each is faster. The gain comes from balancing the split: if one copy is left carrying most of the sinks, its delay still dominates and the net is no faster. The worst copy sets the timing.

Click a sink to move it to the next driver copy. Balance the fanout across the three drivers so the worst copy's delay meets the limit, then Submit split.
