Clock Tree Synthesis
easy
interactive · in-browser
Clock source balancing. This is a star clock: one root buffer drives every flip-flop clock pin directly, and each sink's clock arrives later the farther it sits from the root. Skew is the spread between the earliest and latest arrival.
- Skew under target - drag the root to the point that makes the nearest and farthest sinks as equal as possible.
- Latency in budget - the farthest arrival (insertion delay) must also stay under budget.
Notice the floor: even the best-placed star has real skew, because the sinks are spread out. That is exactly why real clocks use trees, not a star. Balance it, then Submit design.
